The Ferrari 12Cilindri continues Ferrari’s tradition of front-engined V12 grand tourers, a configuration found in some of the marque’s most recognisable vehicles. Introduced in 2024 as the successor to the 812 generation, it retains the naturally aspirated V12 layout seen in models such as the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, 550 Maranello, 599 GTB Fiorano and F12berlinetta. The formula combines high engine performance with the long-distance capabilities expected of a two-seat grand tourer.

Its development also reflects Ferrari’s broader model strategy. While hybrid systems define models such as the 296 GTB and SF90 Stradale, the 12Cilindri follows a different path centred on engine response, high engine speed and naturally aspirated power delivery. The result is a grand tourer that sits alongside hybrid models without adopting their powertrain approach.

 

EXTERIOR

Daytona-inspired proportions

The 12Cilindri follows classic front-engined grand touring proportions, with a long bonnet, a rear-set cabin and a compact rear volume. The black horizontal panel across the front references the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, interpreted within a modern surface treatment. The reference is subtle, with the overall design drawing more broadly from Ferrari’s GT history.

Integrated aerodynamic solutions

Ferrari integrates aerodynamic functions into the bodywork rather than relying on large external devices. Airflow is managed through underbody channels, front intakes and a rear section designed to control turbulence. The approach allows the car to maintain a clean profile while improving high-speed stability.

Active rear aerodynamics

The rear section incorporates two active aerodynamic flaps that switch between Low Drag and High Downforce configurations according to the vehicle’s dynamic conditions. When inactive, the flaps sit flush with the bodywork, preserving the clean shape of the rear section. When deployed, they modify airflow over the rear of the vehicle and can provide up to 50 kg of additional downforce.

 

INTERIOR

Driver-focused architecture

The interior is organised around the driver, with a digital instrument cluster positioned directly behind the steering wheel. The layout ensures that key driving information remains within the driver’s field of vision while maintaining a clear separation between driving and secondary controls.

Passenger display integration

An 8.8-inch display is positioned in front of the passenger, providing access to performance data, navigation and media functions. This arrangement allows the passenger to interact with the vehicle’s systems without interrupting the driver.

Materials and cabin layout

The cabin combines leather, aluminium, carbon fibre and technical fabrics depending on specification. The centre console appears suspended, creating space between the seats while maintaining structural clarity. This approach favours simplicity over complexity.

Long-distance usability

Seat support, driving position and control placement are designed to accommodate extended journeys. While the vehicle remains performance-focused, the interior reflects its role as a grand tourer capable of covering longer distances without compromising comfort.

 

PERFORMANCE

Evolution of the F140 V12

The 12Cilindri uses a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 derived from Ferrari’s F140 engine family. It produces 830 cv at 9,250 rpm and 678 Nm of torque, with a redline of 9,500 rpm. Ferrari revised internal components, including titanium connecting rods and a lighter crankshaft, to reduce rotating mass and improve responsiveness at high revs.

Naturally aspirated delivery

The engine delivers power without turbocharging or hybrid assistance. Ferrari focuses on linear power delivery and direct throttle response, allowing the engine to build performance progressively across the rev range. Aspirated Torque Shaping modifies the torque curve in third and fourth gears to provide a more progressive increase in acceleration.

Eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Compared with the seven-speed unit used in the 812 Superfast, it offers shorter shift times and revised gearing, with a shorter final drive that increases the torque transmitted to the wheels. The longer eighth gear is intended for more efficient motorway driving.

Rear-wheel-drive configuration

The car retains a front-mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup. This arrangement positions the engine behind the front axle to improve weight distribution while maintaining the balance associated with Ferrari’s V12 grand tourers.

 

TECHNOLOGY

Triple-screen cockpit

The digital interface consists of a 15.6-inch driver display, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch passenger display. Each screen serves a defined function, allowing the driver to access performance data while the central system manages infotainment and navigation.

Steering wheel control system

Ferrari places key controls on the steering wheel, including the Manettino drive mode selector and vehicle function buttons. Capacitive controls with indented touch-sensitive areas provide access to several functions directly from the steering wheel.

Driver assistance systems

Available driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. These systems support everyday usability while remaining secondary to the car’s primary focus on driver engagement.

Connectivity features

Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and smartphone charging are integrated into the system. These features ensure compatibility with current mobile technology without changing the core driver-focused layout.

The Aston Martin Vanquish uses a twin-turbocharged V12 producing 1,000 Nm of torque. The Ferrari 12Cilindri uses a naturally aspirated V12 with a 9,500 rpm redline and no turbocharging. Both follow the front-engined grand tourer concept, although their engine characteristics differ.

Ferrari 12Cilindri vs Lamborghini Revuelto

The Lamborghini Revuelto pairs a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 with three electric motors and all-wheel drive, for a combined output of 1,015 cv. The Ferrari retains a purely naturally aspirated V12 without electric assistance, sending power to the rear wheels alone. Both share a V12 displacement, but the Lamborghini’s hybrid AWD system and the Ferrari’s non-hybrid rear-wheel-drive setup represent different engineering responses to the same V12 format.

Ferrari 12Cilindri vs Ferrari 812 Superfast

The 812 Superfast established the previous benchmark for Ferrari’s front-engined V12 models. The 12Cilindri introduces revised engine internals, an updated gearbox, brake-by-wire technology and a new aerodynamic concept with active rear flaps. The design also shifts towards a cleaner and more restrained surface language.
